Privacy policy

The short version

Popdeck keeps only what it needs to build your flashcards and remember your progress. We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.

What we store

• Your account: the email address and name Google or Apple shares when you sign in, and your plan (free, Pro or beta tester). If you use the iPhone or Android app as a guest, we store your decks under a random guest account with no email until you sign in.
• Your decks and word lists: the words picked from each episode you process, their meanings and one short example line per word. Plus the words you've marked as known.
• Your study progress: your reviews, scores and schedules, so cards come back at the right time.
• Device IDs: a random ID for each browser, extension or phone you use, to apply the device limits on plans.
• Problem reports: if the extension can't read a streaming site, it may send us the site name, page path and extension version. No account details are included.

What we don't store

We never keep subtitle files or full transcripts. The subtitles are read once to pick out the vocabulary, then thrown away. We don't track which shows you watch beyond the episodes you choose to turn into decks.

Signing in

You sign in with Google, or with Apple in the iPhone app. They tell us your email address (with Apple, this can be a private relay address) and your name. We never see your password and can't reach anything else in your Google or Apple account.

Sharing to the library (opt-in)

Sharing is off unless you turn it on for a deck. When you share, a preview of that episode (show name, episode number, top words and dictionary meanings) appears in the Popdeck library and on a public episode page. Your name and email are never shown. You can stop sharing at any time.

Services we use

• Hosting and database: our servers and database are hosted by a cloud provider (Railway).
• Google: for sign-in and, for some words, text-to-speech audio. Only the word is sent.
• Anthropic (Claude): if AI notes are turned on, the words and their example lines are sent to Claude to write short notes. Your account details aren't sent.
• Cloudflare: our domain and email forwarding, and Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies or tracking individual visitors.
• Lemon Squeezy: handles payments if you buy Pro. We never see your card details.
• Sentry: when something breaks on our server or website, an error report (what failed, the page and your browser type) goes to Sentry so we can fix it. Reports don't include your email, decks or IP address.

Deleting your data

You can delete any deck from the app. To delete your whole account and everything linked to it, use Settings → Delete account in the iPhone or Android app, which deletes it immediately, or email us at hello@popdeck.co from the address you sign in with and we'll do it within 30 days.
